Chaitra (Hindi: चैत्र) is a month of the Hindu calendar. Chaitra is also known as Devanagari(देवनागरी) : चैत्र Chaitra, In the standard Hindu calendar and India's national civil calendar, Chaitra is the first month of the year. It is the last month in the Bengali calendar, where it is called Choitro.

There is no fixed date in Gregorian Calendar for the 1st day of Chaitra, i.e., the beginning of the Hindu New Year. 

The month of Chaitra is also associated with the coming of Spring. Holi, the spring festival of colour, is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of Phalguna month before Chaitra.Other important festivals in the month are; Chaitra Navratri, Ram Navami - the birth anniversary of Lord Ram celebrated on the 9th day of Chaitra, and Hanuman Jayanti that falls on the last day (Purnima) of Chaitra

"Chaitra" can also be used as a name, with the meaning of "Spring" or "Aries Sign"

According to the Sloka (श्लोक) Chaturvarga Chintamani, the god Bramha (ब्रम्हा) created the universe on the first day of Shukla paksha (शुक्ला पक्ष) (first fortnight / first half of the month) in the month of Chaitra. He also gradually included planets, stars, ruthu (seasons), years and lords of years.

This is the first day of the Chitra (spring) month. In northern parts of India this day is celebrated as Chaitra Sukhladi. In Andhra and Karnataka it is celebrated as Ugadi: Yuga + aadi means start of new era.

चैत्र (हिंदी: चैत्र) हिंदू कैलेंडर का एक महीना है। चैत्र को देवनागरी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है: चैत्र चैत्र, मानक हिंदू कैलेंडर और भारत के राष्ट्रीय नागरिक कैलेंडर में, चैत्र वर्ष का पहला महीना है। यह बंगाली कैलेंडर में आखिरी महीना है, जहां इसे चिट्रो कहा जाता है। चैत्र के 1 दिन यानी, के लिए ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर में कोई निश्चित तारीख नहीं है। हिंदू नव वर्ष की शुरुआत।
चैत्र का महीना वसंत के आने से भी जुड़ा है। होली, रंग का त्यौहार, फाल्गुन माह की पूर्णिमा (पूर्णिमा) को चैत्र से पहले मनाया जाता है। इस महीने में कई महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार हैं; चैत्र नवरात्रि, राम नवमी - भगवान राम की जयंती चैत्र के 9 वें दिन मनाई जाती है, और हनुमान जयंती जो चैत्र के अंतिम दिन (पूर्णिमा) को पड़ती है

"वसंत" या "मेष राशि" के अर्थ के साथ "चैत्र" भी एक नाम के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है।

स्लोक चतुर्वर्ग चिंतामणि के अनुसार, भगवान ब्रम्हा ने चैत्र के महीने में शुक्ल पक्ष (पहले पखवाड़े / महीने के पहले आधे) के पहले दिन ब्रह्मांड का निर्माण किया। उन्होंने धीरे-धीरे ग्रहों, सितारों, रूतु (मौसम), वर्ष और वर्ष के स्वामी भी शामिल किए।
यह चित्रा (वसंत) महीने का पहला दिन है। भारत के उत्तरी भागों में इस दिन को चैत्र सुखलदी के रूप में मनाया जाता है। आंध्र और कर्नाटक में इसे उगादि के रूप में मनाया जाता है: युग + अनादि का अर्थ है नए युग की शुरुआत।
